Black Forest / White Forest is a set of 18 round scratch cards mounted on black lacquered metal legs. 2015-2016. Forest erected on a pine bark floor.
The maps are like abstract landscapes, taking close-up images of the bark of remarkable trees encountered in Berlin for the Dendromité-Berlin project (2015). Starting from photographs, the scratched texture of the circular shapes out of scale, the contrasts of black and white move away from this source. The sense of reading no longer has any evidence, becomes motive, approaches abstraction. Couldn’t these engraved details be mountainous, marine, crystalline, floral

This black forest mounted on metal feet, whose shape is inspired by models, scientific sculptures showing in particular the internal structure of plants.
Carboxysomes, 5 icosahedra in waxed black wood, with thermic photos and half glass spheres, placed on wooden stumps. 2016.
Ancient scientific intuitions sometimes coincide with the results obtained through contemporary scientific imagery. The objects of ancient knowledge are all sources of formal inspiration. Carboxysomes are in the micro-biology of bacterial micro-compartments containing enzymes and involved in carbon fixation. Their shape, discovered under an electron microscope, is that of an icosahedron, a platonician solid.
The glass bubbles distributed over the wooden icosahedron allow to discover images of tree bark made with a thermic camera. The objects made of black wood and glass evoke ancient scientific instruments.
The series of pieces speaks of an intimacy with the tree without showing it, being located between the fantasized forest and the Platonician solids.
