The French-German project “Out of Balance” offered an opportunity to participate in the creation of Riyadh’s first BioArt Laboratory through a 10-day series of workshops.
 Organized by the Goethe-Institut Riyadh and the Alliance Française of Saudi Arabia, and Art Laboratory Berlin, in collaboration with Gharem Studio, this program introduced participants to techniques of artistic work with biological organisms through hands-on workshops, lectures, and seminars.
With workshops were run by Karine Bonneval, Helena Niconole, Fara Peluso; seminars by Christian de Lutz and Regine Rapp.

Our palms was an invitation for the participants to go on the field to meet date palm trees. Walking among them, looking at them, listening to the sounds of their palms and trunks,, sap and soil with bioacoustics tool.
From this harvest, back to Gharem studio we created a carpet, using palm and other plant fibers, in order to weave the plants material and artificial items such as electronic wires, connected to an arduino.
The result is a sounded piece that can be activated by touching copper palms : from our palm of hand to the palm tree.
The audience can touch the carpet and listen to the sounds collected from our field trip.
