Acclimatation,

Acclimatation,

A film inspired by the life of the French explorer Charles Poncet de Brétigny ( ?-1644), symbolizing colonization with dictatorial ways that turn mad. He was the first Frenchman to settle with a colony of men in French Guiana in 1633. He becomes a despot, reigning over his "subjects", sick and disoriented. He will end up mad and hated, murdered in the rainforest.

"Acclimatization" follows the evolution of a solitary character, half gardener, half mad scientist, who lives in a self-sufficient greenhouse.
This man, inspired by the dandy Des Esseintes from the novel "A contre" and the first French settler in French Guiana, Charles Poncet de Brétigny, built his universe around plants. He performs strange operations on his plant residents and on himself. Little by little, strange races in the primary forest populate his dreams and accompany his changing days. The botanical greenhouse becomes the embodiment of our desire to control nature: plants from virgin forests, artificially brought back and kept alive in glass microcosms; studied and transformed in our image. But the plants have not yet said their last word...
