Rooms of intimacy

Museum night at the Maison de la Rhénanie Palatinat, Dijon

Nine students, artists and musicians, came together in autumn 2014 for a series of workshops.  Led by artist Karine Bonneval, as part of their studies at ENSA Dijon; in partnership with the University of Burgundy's PESM and composer Vincet-Raphaël Carinola.

At the same time, the Maison de la Rhénanie Palatinat, in conjunction with the German Embassy in Paris, has launched a series of events focusing on the theme of gardens - Garten Traüme - living spaces, places of dreams.

The venue for a group exhibition, in situ, was found. Through installations, sculptures and performances, these young artists invite us to (re)discover plant otherness.

We now know that plants have an astonishing capacity for exchange and communication, and thanks to a device (IRGA) connected to a 'chamber' fixed to a trunk, for example, ecophysiologists can measure the intensity of a plant's breathing. Karine Bonneval suggests that we visualise this in a film, which may encourage us to question our relationship with plants: we breathe air in exchange for this plant environment, and our exhalation settles on the leaves, which use and absorb it to produce oxygen as well as carbon.

Let's think of plants as living things in permanent exchange with us.
At least, that's what these young artists are offering you.
