Vertimus

Galerie Césaria Evora is the gallery of the University of Evry, and the exhibition is organized by SIANA Essonne.

Vertimus is the 3rd person plural conjugation of the verb vertere, to turn, to turn around, to transform. Used by plant-ethics philosopher Michael Marder, it is the title of a research project and series of pieces begun in 2019 with ecophysiologist Eric Badel of INRAe PIAF. These installations invite us to bring our bodies into play with those of one or more plants, to discover that we have senses in common, despite our obvious physiological differences.

Vertimus invites us to bend over with ficus to watch a danced duet between a poplar and a performer, Emilie Pouzet, standing up together, in a blend of temporalities.

Planting ourselves with the aralia connects the soles of our feet to the electrical intensities that run through a plant. The result of a collaboration with IBGBI researcher Guillaume Hutzler (U Evry-Paris-Saclay), this connected mat enables us to plant ourselves in turn.
